When Arsenal don’t play midweek, Wednesday can be painfully quiet and this one was no different.

Sure, there was some gossip around but the amount of rum I drank last night meant that I wasn’t overly fussed about writing 20 articles saying ‘not going to happen’ or varieties thereof.

So, was there any actual news? A little.

Chris Willock got an England u19 callup, Wojciech Szczesny crashed out of the Champions League as Roma showed an aversion to keeping 11 men on the field (they finished with 9) and Dan Crowley scored a quite lovely effort from outside the box. Pity it was all for nothing as Oxford were well out of the game before his injury-time strike.

Joel Campbell has trained for the first time with Sporting and picked their cursed number 7 shirt for the season. His reasoning is likely ‘things can’t be any worse than they were at Arsenal where I never got picked,’ so kudos to him.

As we look to reinforce Mathieu Debuchy is still looking for the door, although it seems as if he might fancy a stay in London now.

Nicklas Bendtner, who hasn’t scored in 10 months, could be on his way to QPR which is really rather good news because the longer we didn’t sign a striker the more likely it was becoming that we’d sign him on deadline day. Just for the bants, like.

Antoine Griezmann? Yes, but no. Marcel Tisserand, Rachid Ghezzal and Phil Jones all made it into our gossip pages. My favourite was the announcement that we will make a deadline day move for Ghezzal as if anyone knows what Wenger will be doing on deadline day.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a recap without talking Shkodran Mustafi. We’re still linked, we still have no clue what’s going on (and nor does anyone else by the looks of it).

Finally, this season’s Injury League table is up and running and Arsenal are sliding down it.

That’s something, I guess.
