Joel Campbell will wear the number 7 shirt at Sporting, a move that has left some Sporting fans worried that he will be affected by the curse which seems to follow the shirt.

The issue they have with the 7 seems very like the one Arsenal have with their 9, but hopefully Joel can be the first to break the trend.

The issue goes back to Luis Figo’s exit in 1995 when he left for Barcelona. Since then, it’s claimed, the nine players who have worn the shirt have struggled and there was even a three-year period from 2004 when nobody at the club would even take the shirt number.

Here’s hoping Joel doesn’t become the 10th unlucky number 7.
