Jack Grealish has revealed that his friendship with Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale helped him to score Manchester City’s second goal in their 3-1 victory over the Gunners but he feels Arsenal were the better team on the night.

On Wednesday night, Jack Grealish’s shot deflected off Takehiro Tomiyasu and found the net. After the game, he explained that he thought Aaron Ramsdale would anticipate him reversing the shot.

“I know Gundo and I knew he was going to pass it,” Grealish said on Amazon Prime.

“He’s so unselfish and I knew he was going to pass it. Him and Kev, obviously Kev loves getting assists.

“As the ball was coming, obviously I’m trying to go back across the keeper.

“I was going to reverse it but then I know Rammers from England and we always have banter, so I thought he’s going to think I’m going to try and reverse it.

“I was due one of them, just a deflection or something. I was going to take my top off, but I realised I was already on a yellow card so it’s a good job I didn’t.”

Grealish has enjoyed a good run in the City side and has produced in big games, having scored against Manchester United and assisted Nathan Ake’s goal in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal.

However, he was critical of City’s performance against Arsenal and said,“If I’m being honest, I don’t think we actually played that well.

“I thought Arsenal played a lot better than us, they were the better team.

“Did they have more possession than us? 36 per cent?! God knows then. I don’t want to say much about that. That’s what I mean – I thought they were the better team. They had a few chances and stuff.

“I don’t know if it was a penalty – I’ve not seen it back – but if you win titles and stuff you’ve got to come to grounds like this and even when you’re not at your best you’ve got to win games.

“And that’s what me and Riyad [Mahrez] said to each other on the bench.”
