Arsenal are currently in talks with a number of players about renewing their contracts but, out of all of them, Gabriel Martinelli’s always seemed like it would be the least complicated.

Since signing for Arsenal in 2019, he has often spoken about how much he loves the club and wants to remain at Arsenal for the rest of his life hoping, one day, to become the club captain.

So, the Daily Mail today reporting that Arsenal and Martinelli are close to a deal is great news but also not that unexpected.

Currently earning £70kpw, Martinelli’s wages would rise to around £200kpw which is consistent with what has been reported for a few months now.

Sportsmail revealed on October 10 that talks over an improved deal were under way. And those discussions are now at an advanced stage, with Arsenal hopeful that an agreement is close. Martinelli, who has scored five goals this season, is expected to sign a contract worth in the region of £200,000 a week. He currently earns £70,000 a week. Martinelli is said to be very happy in London and informed his advisers that it was his preference to stay with Arsenal, despite growing interest from top European clubs. The 21-year-old made three appearances for Brazil at the Qatar World Cup.

Martinelli isn’t just ‘said to be happy’ in London, as that article states. He has actually said he is happy.

“I’m very happy at Arsenal,” Martinelli said just last month.

“I said it many times. This is my club. I love to be here, I love the city, I love the club, I love everything about Arsenal.

“So I want to stay. I’m very happy. Yeah, just need to get a pen!”

After his World Cup performances for Brazil there has been a lot of interest in Martinelli from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

He will reject all of them to stay with Arsenal, the club he rejected 25 others for in 2019.
