Gabriel Martinelli says he wants to stay at Arsenal where he’s happy, he just needs to get a pen to sign an extension.
Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli is one of a few key players the club are currently trying to tie down to new deals.
The Brazilian’s contract situation is less urgent than that of Bukayo Saka or William Saliba, as he already has a deal to 2024 with an option to extend to 2026. But while he and Arsenal are in such good form, it seems like a good time to renegotiate.
Speaking about his contract situation in a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s match against FC Zurich, Martinelli didn’t hold back in his positive assessment of his time with the team.
“I’m very happy at Arsenal,” Martinelli said. “I said it many times. This is my club. I love to be here, I love the city, I love the club, I love everything about Arsenal.
“So I want to stay. I’m very happy. Yeah, just need to get a pen!”
Christian Falk recently reported that the rumours were true that Martinelli was a target for Sunday’s opponents Chelsea. However, Falk added that the player wants to extend his contract at Arsenal, so the move to Stamford Bridge is seemingly off the table.
UOL Esporte’s Bruno Andrade claimed in October that Arsenal want to renew Martinelli’s contract until 2028, and there is optimism on both sides of the negotiation. Fabrizio Romano also believes Martinelli could extend his contract further.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail wrote that Arsenal would have to increase Martinelli’s wages to £200,000 a week to secure a deal. But with the player clearly keen to stay, there’s no reason a compromise can’t be reached.
