On Monday, Arsenal learned that they will face Champions League holders Lyon in the Champions League group stages, along with Joe Montemurro’s Juventus and FC Zurich, whose men’s side are also in Arsenal’s group in the Europa League.

Lyon represent the biggest challenge for the Gunners in a tough group that will see three sides battle it out for the the top two places, but an injury to Ada Hegerberg, that is to keep her out for ‘several weeks’, makes it somewhat easier.

Of course, nobody wants to see players seriously injured, so we are happy to report that the problem, although unspecified, does not seem to be serious for the 27-year-old.

Hegerberg has been ruled out of action since the start of September when she was injured during an international match and has not played since.

An official statement from Lyon said of the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, “The international striker, who has already started a specific and adapted care protocol, will have to observe a period of unavailability of several weeks.

“A first assessment will be carried out soon by OL’s medical management in order to consider a gradual return to Ada with the professional group.”

Lyon will also be without American international, Catarina Macario, who was ruled out in June for six months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture of her left knee.

Arsenal face Lyon at the Groupama OL Training Center on 15 October in their first group game.

The return fixture is set for 15 December.
