Ahead of England’s friendly on Friday against the USA, England have called up Lotte Wubben-Moy after captain Leah Williamson was forced to withdraw following an injury picked up in training.

Initially, Wubben-Moy was called up to replace Lucy Parker, who has also picked up an injury while doubts swirled about Williamson. It wasn’t long after that, however, that an injury was confirmed for Williamson.

It is not clear at the time of writing exactly what the problem is, nor how long it will keep the England captain out of action.

The injury is believed to be a ‘knock’ which doesn’t sound too serious and will hopefully mean she is available when the FA WSL returns with Arsenal’s game against Reading on 16 October.

Just a few days later, Arsenal get their Champions League proper underway against holders Lyon, so they will be hopeful of having Williamson back, especially with Rafaelle sidelined with a fractured metatarsal following the game against Ajax.
