Fiorentina outlets are describing Lucas Torreira as ‘indispensable’ after their impressive win over AC Milan this weekend.

Going into the weekend fixtures, AC Milan were one of just two teams in Serie A yet to lose a single league game this season.

Fiorentina had already lost six, so they were very much the underdogs as they hosted Milan with Arsenal loanee Lucas Torreira in their starting lineup.

Yet Fiorentina somehow pulled off a shocking 4-3 win. It was well deserved too, as they led their opponents for 75 minutes of the match, and led by two goals or more for over a third of the game.

Afterwards, Torreira earned plaudits as one of the stars of the show.

Fiorentina News handed Torreira an 8/10 rating, the joint-highest rating they gave to any player on the pitch. They wrote that he was as “indispensable” as rain for plants.

Viola Nation added that they’re “starting to fall in love with Torreira” in Florence, and they see him as a “spiky little character with so much swagger”.

The performance comes just days after TMW reported that Fiorentina were working to try and get a discount on Torreira’s purchase option from Arsenal.

The Italian outlet claimed that Lucas Torreira’s agent was in Fiorentina’s offices this week, to work on making his client’s loan transfer permanent.

Fiorentina are looking for a discount on the €15m purchase option they initially agreed with Arsenal.

The suggestion in the article is that Torreira is keen not to return to Arsenal, and given he’ll only have a year left on his contract in the summer, Fiorentina are hoping to get a better deal.

But with the Uruguay international putting in so many good performances lately, that seems unlikely.

Making his return to the Fiorentina starting lineup on October 24th against Cagliari Calcio, Torreira impressed, with reports suggesting he’d helped to turn around his side’s fortunes in their 3-0 win.

Facing Spezia Calcio in another 3-0 win, Viola Nation wrote that Torreira “ran the show from deep”.

Viola News reported that Torreira put in an “excellent performance”, and they claimed the loanee has a marked impact on the team when he’s involved.

They added: “We can say goodbye to the experiments in the middle, the former Atletico man manages to give the right tempo to the team, fights, runs, but above all recovers a lot of balls.”

With feedback like that for a regular international starter, Arsenal could surely either get Fiorentina to pay up or find another buyer.
