After starting three of Fiorentina’s four Serie A matches following his debut, Lucas Torreira had dropped out of the team either side of the international break, only making appearances as a substitute against Napoli and Venezia.

The good news is that he was back in the starting lineup against Cagliari Calcio on Sunday, featuring in their biggest league win of the season so far.

Torreira played 82 minutes for Fiorentina on the day, completing 88% of his passes and creating two chances. He’s still yet to get through a full 90 with his loan team, but the fact Fiorentina won 3-0 with him in the side is certainly a good sign.

The Fiorentina fans seemed pleased with Torreira after the game, with one remarking that the Uruguayan is a “crazy player” and “perfect for Fiorentina”. La Repubblica also had praise for Torreira, writing that he “turned everything around” for the Serie A side.

Fiorentina will face tougher tests than relegation-threatened Cagliari, and they have a tricky trip to Lazio coming up this week. Torreira now needs to continue to prove himself and retain his spot in the side.
