TMW report that Lucas Torreira’s agent was in Fiorentina’s offices this week, as he works on making his client’s loan transfer permanent.

Fiorentina are looking for a discount on the €15m purchase option they initially agreed with Arsenal, and these next few weeks are reportedly going to be pivotal.

The suggestion in the article is that Torreira is keen not to return to Arsenal, and given he’ll only have a year left on his contract in the summer, Fiorentina are hoping to get a better deal.

Before the international break, Torreira had earned praise for a few good performances with his loan side.

Making his return to the Fiorentina starting lineup on October 24th against Cagliari Calcio, Torreira impressed, with reports suggesting he’d helped to turn around his side’s fortunes in their 3-0 win.

That earned him another start in midweek, in which Fiorentina slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Lazio.

Fortunately, the on-loan midfielder managed to keep his place at the weekend, and he was quickly back in the team’s good books.

Facing Spezia Calcio in another 3-0 win, Viola Nation wrote that Torreira “ran the show from deep”.

They went on to say that the 25-year-old “hoovered up every loose ball” and brought “a spikiness and a swagger that this midfield hasn’t had in years”.

Viola News reported that Torreira put in an “excellent performance”, and they claimed the loanee has a marked impact on the team when he’s involved.

They added: “We can say goodbye to the experiments in the middle, the former Atletico man manages to give the right tempo to the team, fights, runs, but above all recovers a lot of balls.”

Torreira has since made a few further starts, one against Juventus and two on international duty with Uruguay. He’s a whole lot busier than he was with Atletico Madrid last season, and it looks like Fiorentina are keen to keep him around.

That’s unlikely to make Arsenal consider a cut-price deal, though. Fiorentina have their option to buy, and if they want him they can activate it.
