Arsene Wenger claims that Arsenal fans’ protests last season gave out the wrong ‘image’ of the club.

The 2016/17 season is probably one that Arsenal fans – and Wenger – would sooner forget.

They finished outside the top four, failing to earn Champions League football for the first time in two decades, and fan unrest reached an all-time high, with numerous protests, banners and planes showing the manager that at the very least some Gooners didn’t approve of the way he was managing the club.

Speaking recently, Wenger pointed out how this isn’t how Arsenal Football Club wants to be seen by the rest of the world.

“During the game, I think when you are a supporter, and I believe as well that Arsenal is a worldwide respected club and where the togetherness is absolutely important,” the boss told beIN Sport.

“It’s one of the important values to our club and the image that we have given to the world was not the right one.”

While the majority of fan protests tend to be a bit cringe-worthy, the manager has to acknowledge he played a part in the general uncertainty and apathy that surrounded the team for much of the season.

Hopefully, everyone can move forward and Arsenal can kick next season off with a clean slate.
