Newcastle United will reportedly not be following up on their interest in Kieran Gibbs.

  • Newcastle were linked with the left back
  • Arsenal want £15m
  • Gibbs’ future at Arsenal is in doubt as his contract runs down

According to ESPN, Newcastle do not plan on signing Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs this summer and will pursue other transfer targets.

Gibbs has been linked with a move to St James’ Park as hes struggled for first team football at Arsenal. With his contract running down and the imminent arrival of Schalke 04’s Sead Kolasinac, it seems his time at the club is coming to an end.

The £15m Arsenal are demanding may have turned Newcastle off too, and the Magpies will now look at cheaper alternatives. West Bromwich Albion were believed to be a suitor for Gibbs but may too balk at the lofty asking price.

Gibbs has been a fringe player at Arsenal since the arrival of Nacho Monreal. Due to a combination of poor form and recurring injuries, he’s yet to sufficiently challenge the Spaniard for a starting spot. At 27, he’s unlikely to improve any further.

The move for Bosnian left back Kolasinac suggests Arsenal want a more reliable long-term option in that position.
