Last week, we covered reports that Arsenal had invited AD Cantolao 18-year-old Arón Sánchez on trial this summer. At the time, the only sources of the news were Peruvian outlets, with little for us to go on to assess their reliability.

Football.London have since confirmed the news, writing that Arsenal have indeed offered a trial to the teenager, who is seen as a potential recruit for the u23s.

Back in Peru, Ovacion have been in contact with a source close to the board at AD Cantolao, who told them the invitation wasn’t just for a trial, but for the player to do a whole pre-season in England. They’re just waiting for the specific details of the offer.

This isn’t an unprecedented move for Arsenal. Back in 2019, they took FC Twente left-back Redouan Taha el Idrissi on trial for a couple of games during the u23s’ tour. El Idrissi didn’t end up joining, but Sánchez’s trial could well end differently.
