Arsenal have reportedly invited Peruvian centre-back Arón Sánchez to train with the club in pre-season, ahead of a potential signing.
The news of Arsenal’s interest in AD Cantolao 18-year-old Arón Sánchez came from an unlikely source, with ArsenalFanaticsNews first reporting that Sánchez had been invited to train in pre-season. But the report has since been backed up by other outlets.
Diego Montalvan of Telemundo Deportes reports that having spoken to a source at Sánchez’s current club, he can confirm that the rumours are true and Cantolao are waiting on a concrete offer.
Then Franz Tamayo of Peruvian outlet Depor tweeted that he’d confirmed with John Cross of the Mirror that Sanchez had been invited to train with Arsenal.
Despite his age, having only turned 18 in May, Sánchez is a nailed-on starter for Cantolao in the Peruvian first tier, playing 90 minutes in all nine of their league games this season and scoring one goal.
His club form even earned him a place on Peru’s provisional squad list for Copa America, though he didn’t make the final squad.
Montalvan writes that Sánchez “is a big, physical presence in the heart of the Cantolao defence. He is strong in the air. Good playing out the back. Has been in the first team since 16. Has a high ceiling. Still things to learn.”
According to ArsenalFanaticsNews, Arsenal technical director Edu is looking to sign Sánchez for €2m before loaning him to Spain or Portugal to gain European experience.
