Believing in the power of sport to help children recover after experiencing war, Arsenal’s leading goalscorer, Vivianne Miedema is delighted to become the new Ambassador for War Child, a charity that aims to “protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in war.”

“If I hadn’t chosen to play professional soccer, I would have ended up working with children,” Miedema said. “As a professional soccer player I have a position where I can support children who are having a tough time. I am delighted to take on this responsibility.”

War Child’s Marco Borsato said, “We are very happy with Vivianne’s commitment to War Child.

“She is one of the best football players in the world. Such a top athlete and strong young woman is an international role model for many children.”

Miedema is certainly a role model with 26 goals from 17 games this season alone and 53 goals scored over the course of 2019. During the World Cup earlier this year, she also became the Netherlands all-time leading goalscorer aged just 22.
