Wojciech Szczesny is close to completing a £13m move to Serie A champions Juventus.

  • Szczesny was left out of Arsenal’s tour squad
  • He’s expected to finalise a move to Juventus soon
  • He’ll be the successor to Gianluigi Buffon

The Polish keeper is reportedly hopeful of making the move this week after being left out of Arsenal’s tour squad. Juventus have been working on a deal since last month, and according to the Daily Mail it seems they’ll finally get their man.

Szczesny is expected to join the Serie A champions for £13m, which is a disappointing price considering someone like Jordan Pickford cost £30m. He’ll spend the season sitting on the bench behind Gianluigi Buffon, before taking over as number one when Buffon retires next summer.

There was a feeling among Arsenal fans that Szczesny still had plenty to offer. He improved significantly while he was on loan at Roma, and could have challenged the ageing Petr Cech for the number one spot.

Arsenal, though, haven’t made much effort to keep him, and Szczesny will now have the opportunity to be the first choice keeper at another big club.
