Arsenal have opened talks with Aaron Ramsey’s representatives over a new contract, with the player expecting a significant pay-rise to sign on.

Standard Sport write that club and player have started negotiations over a new deal. They say the Welshman wants a lot more than the £100,000-a-week he earns currently.

Overall this sounds like good news, that they’re at least starting to discuss an extension now. The 27-year-old’s contract expires in 2019, so if the club aren’t tying him down to a new contract they’ll probably start to think about selling him.

The Arsenal fans voted Ramsey their Player of the Season, so it would be a real shame to lose him now.

The conspiracy theorists are already out when it comes to the new kit launch though, as the leaked promotional pictures contain the likes of Aubameyang, Özil, Lacazette and Mkhitaryan, the leaked promotional video stars Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal, but there’s no sign of Ramsey in the strip so far.

There are also rumours that Ramsey’s agent is pushing him not to accept a new deal. He apparently wants the Welshman to force a move to Barcelona, although there’s no concrete evidence the Catalan club are after him in the first place.

Hopefully that’s all just social media gossip, and he’ll sign a new deal before next season gets underway.
