Marcelo Flores hasn’t had consistent minutes at Real Oviedo so far this season, but he appeared to be making positive steps in the last few weeks, with three league starts in four games.

The most recent of these came in a match away to SD Eibar, but Flores’ participation in the fixture was brought to an early end at the hour mark.

Running hard to close down an Eibar defender, Flores stretched to block a pass. As he turned towards the ball, his left foot caught in the turf and twisted his ankle painfully.

Assessing footage of the incident, Dr. Rajpal Brar wrote that there’s concern for a high ankle sprain or medial ligament damage, though the one positive is that the foot wasn’t fully planted.

ESPN write that the severity of the injury is currently unknown, highlighting that the player couldn’t put weight on his foot as he left the field of play. A medical update is expected in the coming hours.

You can watch the video of the incident below, but be warned that it doesn’t make for pleasant viewing.

Flores has made 12 appearances for Real Oviedo so far this season. The winger is on loan until the summer, but his situation will now largely depend on the assessment of his injury.

With the January transfer window soon to open, Arsenal will need to make a decision over whether to bring Flores back or not.
