Lucas Torreira has won his second Fiorentina Player of the Month award of 2022, after scoring two of the side’s three goals in March.

Lucas Torreira confirmed on Thursday that he’d won Fiorentina’s Player of the Month award for March, thanking the fans and adding “it is very nice to receive this recognition and it makes me want to keep fighting to defend these colours”.

It’s hardly surprising the Fiorentina fans voted Torreira for March. The midfielder scored the winning goal against Bologna and Fiorentina’s only goal against Inter Milan in a 1-1 draw.

Given the Serie A side only scored three goals in four March fixtures in total, and considering Torreira isn’t exactly in the team for his goalscoring prowess, it was a very impactful month for him.

Torreira also won the same award in January, so he’s evidently a popular figure in Florence at the moment.

Reports suggest Lucas Torreira is set to join Fiorentina permanently this summer, with Arsenal and Fiorentina in talks over a deal.

Torreira has a €15m option to buy in his contract, and with his positive recent form, speculation is growing over what happens next.

“My agent met with the Fiorentina people last week,” Torreira said in March. “I’m very happy in Florence because I can feel the trust of the club and the manager.

“Today I belong to Arsenal, and I need to evaluate many things, but I’m very happy here.”

Fabrizio Romano also recently reported that Fiorentina are hoping to sign Torreira on a permanent deal, and talks are underway to reach an agreement with Arsenal.

Various Italian outlets have suggested that Fiorentina are looking for a discount on their €15m buy option. With Torreira winning multiple Player of the Month awards in 2022 already, it’s hard to see how they’d justify that.
