Chris Wheatley reports that Lucas Torreira is set to join Fiorentina permanently this summer, with Arsenal and Fiorentina in talks over a deal.

Torreira is currently on loan with Serie A club Fiorentina for the season, with a €15m option to buy in his contract. With his positive recent form, speculation is growing over what happens next.

This latest update follows Torreira himself confirming that his agent was in contact with Fiorentina over his next steps. It appears that’s now progressed to club-to-club talks.

“My agent met with the Fiorentina people last week,” Torreira said. “I’m very happy in Florence because I can feel the trust of the club and the manager.

“Today I belong to Arsenal, and I need to evaluate many things, but I’m very happy here.”

Fabrizio Romano also recently reported that Fiorentina are hoping to sign Torreira on a permanent deal, and talks are underway to reach an agreement with Arsenal.

Arsenal are open to Torreira’s departure, and there’s an existing €15m purchase option included in the midfielder’s loan.

Though in reports from last Wednesday and Thursday, La Nazione did claim that Fiorentina are aiming for a possible discount on a permanent transfer for Torreira.

La Nazione claim a decision will be made in the next month or so, and they admit it will be difficult for Arsenal to accept a lower price.

This rumour has been going around for a while, with TMW reporting the same thing back in November.
