Fiorentina are still planning to try and lower the price to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal, according to a report from Italy.
In reports on both Wednesday and Thursday, relayed by Labaro Viola and Firenze Viola, La Nazione repeated that Fiorentina are aiming for a possible discount on a permanent transfer for Lucas Torreira.
As we know, the Serie A side have a €15m option to buy in Torreira’s loan deal, but they want to negotiate that figure down.
La Nazione claim a decision will be made in the next month or so, and they admit it will be difficult for Arsenal to accept a lower price.
This isn’t the first time the Italian media have suggested Fiorentina might try to pay less than the €15m they agreed. TMW reported the same thing back in November.
But not much has changed in almost four months since then. Torreira is still a regular starter, he’s still popular with the supporters, and it’s pretty clear Fiorentina still want him.
Quite why Arsenal would accept the buying club playing less after a loan that has gone about as well as could have been expected is anyone’s guess.
The fact is, Arsenal can probably find a buyer at €15m, whether it’s Fiorentina or not. So they can activate their option or gamble that no one else submits a bid all summer.
