Jerome Boateng says he’s feeling good at Bayern Munich at the moment, and he can imagine staying until the end of his contract.
Speaking to the German media, Jerome Boateng admitted he can imagine staying with Bayern Munich as things stand. The centre-back has a year left on his contract and the media linked him to Arsenal and Chelsea, but he may not be on the way out after all.
“Before Hansi Flick took over as coach, I was already thinking about my future,” Boateng said (via GGFN). “At the moment I feel good and can imagine that I will stay. I have all my focus on Bayern Munich and the current season.
“I’m not putting myself under any pressure. My contract runs until 2021. The most important thing for me right now is what the coach says. I’ll take my time and let the rest come to me.”
The German media are presenting a very different line from Bayern at the moment. Recent reports suggest the club aren’t planning any contract talks with Boateng and want to sell to avoid losing the player on a free transfer.
It’s possible both sides are true, with Boateng keen to see out one more year in Germany whilst Bayern would rather cash in. For now, the two parties will focus on trying to win the title, with a key clash against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
Boateng is up to 26 competitive appearances for the season so far, helping Bayern to 10 clean sheets. He’s still a regular in the starting lineup right now, despite the exit rumours. It’s not hard to imagine any outcome this summer, it’s a coin toss right now.
