Christian Falk of BILD Sport gave a Twitter update to confirm that both Arsenal and Chelsea hold an interest in the transfer of Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng this summer.

There were plenty of links between Arsenal and Boateng in January. The Gunners were clearly in the market for a centre-back and reportedly viewed the 31-year-old as a good addition. At the time, however, Falk suggested Bayern didn’t want to let him leave.

That seemingly turned out to be the case, as Arsenal moved for Pablo Mari instead. This time, it seems the reports linking Boateng to Arsenal have Falk’s seal of approval, though.

Clearly, they face some competition. Chelsea are currently much closer to Champions League qualification than Mikel Arteta’s side, even if they were struggling for consistency before the coronavirus shutdown.

Boateng is up to 24 competitive appearances for the season so far. Bayern kept nine clean sheets in those matches, including one in their most recent Champions League match against Chelsea. The defender has just over a year left on his current contract to 2021.
