Earlier this week, Mexico announced Marcelo Flores in their u18 squad for the trip to Spain this month. They’ll play in the Atlantic Cup along with Japan, Slovakia and Spain, with the three matches played between January 28th and January 31st.

The event is a simple round-robin tournament, with the winner simply the team getting the most points in the group.

Flores previously played for the Mexico u16s at the Montaigu Tournament. The young side made it to the final with the Arsenal academy youngster featuring in every game. However, the player then missed out on the u17 World Cup.

Thankfully, the people in charge of the selection have realised their mistake. Flores is in great form for the Arsenal u16s this season, even making his debut for the u18s despite his age. A call-up at u18 level for his country is no surprise.

For those who haven’t seen him play, Flores is a winger with excellent dribbling ability. He’s small, quick and agile, and racks up a fair few goals and assists. We spoke with him in April about his move to Arsenal, if you want to give that a read.
