Xavier Amaechi is likely to travel to Hamburg for a medical on Monday ahead of a €2.5m move, according to reports in Germany.
According to Hamburg-based reporter Matthias Linnenbrugger of German outlet MOPO, Amaechi’s transfer to Hamburg is ‘nearing completion’. He’s set to complete a move for €2.5m, agreeing a four-year contract to 2023.
David Ornstein has also confirmed the news, adding that there’s no buy-back clause but Arsenal do have a sell-on clause. Amaechi will wear number 17 with his new club, after rejecting a contract offer to stay in North London.
Bild reported the same €2.5m fee earlier this week, claiming Hamburg had been working hard on the deal for months now, and they’re preparing to make Amaechi their eleventh signing of the summer.
MOPO claim Amaechi’s medical check is imminent, speculating that it could well be on Monday. The contract signing should take place at the same time.
€2.5m isn’t exactly a huge fee in today’s market, though for a player who is yet to make his senior debut it’s not bad either.
Amaechi has been with the u23s in pre-season, after missing out on the first-team tour of the USA. With Nicolas Pepe reportedly close to joining the club from Lille, opportunities for a left-footed right-winger were only going to grow more scarce in North London.
