According to Bild, Hamburg are set to sign Amaechi from Arsenal for €2.5m. The 2. Bundesliga club have reportedly been working hard on a deal for months, and are now preparing to hand the winger the number eleven shirt at Arsenal.

In England, the reports aren’t quite so final. Goal only go so far as to claim the interest from Germany ‘intensifies’, and Amaechi is ‘heading for’ an exit. They mention his snubs in the Europa League final and on the first-team pre-season tour.

Goal do get a couple of their facts wrong though. Firstly, they say Amaechi didn’t feature during the u23 tour of Slovakia. Although the winger was dropped against Sparta Prague B, he did then play against Slavia Prague B.

They also mention that Amaechi sat out the game against Barnet this week, suggesting he didn’t play because of the contract talks. However, as we exclusively reported, Amaechi missed the game with an illness.

James Benge has been reporting that there’s been no recent progress towards Amaechi’s departure, despite a departure remaining the most likely outcome.

Essentially, Amaechi’s future remains extremely unclear, but he does appear to be slowly edging towards an exit.

If Arsenal could get €2.5m for a player who has never made a first-team appearance and only has a year on his contract, that wouldn’t be bad business, but if Amaechi reaches his potential it would be a shame not to keep him or bring in even more.
