Arsenal set transfer stance on Viktor Gyokeres

Atletico Madrid aren’t the only club with an interest in Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, but the Gunners don’t want to sell the player.

Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal could potentially include Viktor Gyokeres in a swap deal to sign Julian Alvarez, with Atletico Madrid reportedly interested in the Gunners striker.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Atletico aren’t the only club making efforts to try to understand Gyokeres’ situation this summer, with top clubs already asking about the striker’s availability.

Yet Romano adds that Arsenal’s answer was always that they want to keep the player, and that Gyokeres is part of the club’s project. The Gunners are not opening the doors to an exit.

The reporter adds that if something big comes to the table later in the summer, then we’ll see if that stance might change. But for now, Arsenal are giving the same answer to all interested parties.

Gyokeres scored 21 goals and assisted three in his first season with the Gunners, winning the Premier League and reaching the finals of the Champions League and the League Cup.

The striker scored in all four competitions in which Arsenal competed, despite not starting a single FA Cup game. He was also one of the three players who did convert their penalty in the Champions League final shootout against PSG.

That much was never in doubt, as Gyokeres has scored his last 27 penalties in a row during matches for club and country, as well as a few in shootouts. There’s no one out there more reliable than him from the spot.

Gyokeres also has a goal and two assists at the World Cup in his three appearances with Sweden so far, helping them through to the knockout stages.

It makes sense that Arsenal wouldn’t be offering Gyokeres up for sale this summer, even if there are still things for the striker to improve on for next season.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t leave, if a major bid comes in and Arsenal have a key target on the table to reinvest the money on. But it’s not something the Gunners are actively looking to do at this stage.
