Bukayo Saka has been named in multiple Teams of the Week for his performance against Liverpool, though it’s surprising to see Gabriel Martinelli miss out.

After another win against a big-six side to stay top of the Premier League table, it was certainly not unexpected to see an Arsenal entrant in the various Teams of the Week for the latest round of fixtures.

The BBC’s Garth Crooks named Bukayo Saka in his side, writing that the winger appeared to “relish the moment” as he took his game-winning penalty.

WhoScored also included Saka in their team, highlighting his two goals in an overall performance that gave him an 8.00 rating.

It’s unlikely anyone would argue Saka doesn’t deserve to be in the team, after scoring two big goals in a huge game for his side. But it’s a shame he’s the only Arsenal player to receive recognition, considering Gabriel Martinelli’s performance on the other side.

Winning the Man of the Match award, Martinelli scored one and assisted one as he ran the Liverpool right side ragged.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, and Mohamed Salah were all substituted early on the day. That’s Liverpool’s right-back, right-centre-back, and right-winger.

When you score one, assist one, and watch every player you’re up against replaced early, you know you’ve done something right.

Arsenal have been involved in a lot of Teams of the Week this season so far.

They saw Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba, and Aaron Ramsdale feature in Teams of the Week for their opening game against Crystal Palace, before Jesus and Granit Xhaka made it in for their performances against Leicester City.

Saliba and Odegaard were included for the win over Bournemouth, and Odegaard was back again for the win over Fulham.

There were no entrants for the game against Manchester United, but five players featured in the Teams of the Week after Brentford, and two more were included for the north London derby.

By comparison, Arsenal’s one entrant against Liverpool feels a little light. But perhaps they’re all getting bored of writing about Mikel Arteta’s side every week.
