Di Marzio report that Eintracht Frankfurt have presented a formal offer to Arsenal to secure the services of Lucas Torreira. For the player’s part, he’s still hoping for a return to Italy, where he was so impressive with Sampdoria to earn the Arsenal move in the first place.

Fiorentina and Lazio are the two Italian clubs credited by Di Marzio as having an interest in the midfielder.

Football.London report that Torreira is close to moving to Italy, but he’s currently back as London Colney, after his extended absence due to quarantine regulations between Uruguay and the UK.

Torreira knows he’s not in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the coming season, and he’s training individually despite his return to London. It seems an inevitability he’ll leave Arsenal by the end of the month, the club just need to sort out the specifics.

It’s not just a matter of figuring out which club he’ll go to. There’s also little clarity over the type of deal Torreira might leave on. Previous reports suggested AS Roma and Lazio had made loan offers, and there’s no word on the details of Frankfurt’s formal offer.

Torreira still has two years left on his Arsenal contract, so a loan deal isn’t impossible. A permanent transfer would be ideal, simply to avoid having to deal with this same situation again next summer, but if Arsenal don’t get the offers they can’t make the sale.
