Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) report that Emerson is looking forward to finally joining up with Barcelona this summer, after two years on loan with Real Betis. However, he may not remain with his new club for long.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties reportedly have them considering a sale, and they’ve summoned Emerson’s agent for a meeting to discuss their next steps.

Arsenal are reportedly interested, and Barcelona would start to consider offers at the €25m mark this summer.

Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Emerson was on Arsenal’s list of right-back targets for the upcoming window, though at the time the Gunners hadn’t made any steps to firm up that interest.

Mundo Deportivo have linked Emerson to Arsenal for a while now, claiming back in March that scouts were watching the defender with Real Betis. Arsenal were even linked with Emerson back before he joined Barcelona and Betis.

The 22-year-old is very strong defensively, with excellent numbers in terms of tackles, interceptions, clearances, pressures, aerial duels, basically every available defensive stat. At the other end, he has two goals and four assists this season.

With Hector Bellerin seemingly on the way out, Arsenal may be willing to invest in a new first-choice right-back.
