Guido Rodriguez isn’t the only Real Betis player Arsenal are following, as they also have an interest in Emerson Royal, according to reports.

Mundo Deportivo write that as well as Rodriguez, Emerson Royal is another player Arsenal scouts are closely monitoring for a possible transfer in the upcoming window.

Emerson’s situation is a little complicated, as Real Betis and Barcelona jointly paid €6m to Atletico Mineiro for part-ownership of the player’s economic rights in 2019.

Technically, he joined Barcelona and is currently on loan with Betis, but if Barca want to bring him back this summer, they have to pay Betis their €6m, plus an extra €3m.

If Betis and Barcelona decide to sell to Arsenal instead, they’d both receive 50% of the income. So presumably they wouldn’t consider a sale for any less than €12m at the very least.

Emerson has made 62 appearances at right-back in the last two seasons, scoring five goals and assisting 10. It’s not entirely clear what Barcelona want to do, and it’s largely up to them at this point.

The Catalan club have Sergiño Dest starting regularly for them at the moment, so they may consider Emerson surplus to requirements. But we’ll probably need to wait until the summer to find out.
