Tyreece John-Jules and Tom Smith are both back with Arsenal, for different reasons, after their loans in the first half of the campaign.

18-year-old Tom Smith returned to Arsenal after his short-term loan with Dover Athletic expired this week. He made four appearances for the National League club, with widespread postponements damaging his chances to play more often.

The goalkeeper also found himself on the bench fairly often, joining the substitutes for the last four league games that Dover Athletic actually managed to complete.

Arsenal will presumably try to find the teenager a more suitable loan for the second half of the season, as Smith has a lot of competition for games with the u23s right now. Hein, Okonkwo, and Hillson are all competing for academy appearances already.

Meanwhile, Tyreece John-Jules returned to London Colney after his potentially season-ending injury. He’s expected to miss two or three months with a serious hamstring problem.

For now, Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Moore says they’re keeping the loan going, so John-Jules can make a comeback this campaign if he recovers in time. But he’s working with Arsenal while he rehabilitates.

Zech Medley and Trae Coyle also recently returned from their loan spells with Gillingham to rejoin training with Arsenal.
