We covered reports earlier this month that Zech Medley and Trae Coyle would both return to Arsenal in the January transfer window. Though they had loan deals until the end of the season, the Gunners seemingly decided to end them early and recall the pair.

Medley and Coyle are now both back in North London and training with the u23s again.

Going into the window, Coyle was the more likely of the two to return this month. With half the season gone, he’s made three starts in League One and a further five in the cups. Despite scoring four goals in all competitions, he just wasn’t playing enough.

Medley made 17 starts in the first half of the season, and he initially only dropped out of the team due to injury. However, he’s missed the last few squads, despite appearing to be fit.

If they can find good loan opportunities for the remainder of the season, you’d expect the two of them to go back out. But it’s not an easy market right now, so we’ll see if that’s possible.
