Yesterday, we reported quotes from Pablo Mari expressing his desire to stay at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta for ‘a lot of years’. Speaking to talkSPORT in quotes reported on Monday, he repeated that same assertion.

The 26-year-old talked about how he spent the last four years jumping from team to team, hoping the moves would lead him to a big club in the end. It seems now he believes he’s found that club.

“I’ve been at five clubs over the last four years,” Mari said. “This is a footballer’s life. If you want to play football and you want to improve [to get to a big club] then every year you need to move.

“Maybe when you find a club that is good for you, then you can stay and improve with that club. I have found myself here at Arsenal. It is a really good option for me.

“I want to stay here and improve as a player and a person. I want to be here for many more years.”

Mari made a good start to his Arsenal career in March, keeping consecutive clean sheets against Portsmouth and West Ham. Not the most challenging of opponents, but two important results for the team.

Ideally, he’ll play a few more games before the club make a decision on him. In reality, that’s not necessarily going to be possible. The current league shutdown may well go on long enough to prevent Mari playing before June 30th.

It’s certainly a good sign that he’s making such a public show of his desire to stay, either way.
