Roma are apparently turning their attentions to Shkodran Mustafi who is up for sale.

Bye Mustafi2

Unai Emery named Shkodran Mustafi on the bench for the Premier League opener against Newcastle on Sunday. Preferring to start Calum Chambers and Sokratis, he sent a clear message to the German, who had already been told the club are happy to get rid of him this summer.

With transfer windows around Europe mostly not closing until 2 September, Arsenal still have time to get Mustafi and his £90kpw wages off the books.

Roma had reportedly been interested in signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld or Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren but with the incoming window now closed in England, Spurs do not wish to sell as they cannot replace and Mustafi is seen as another option to Lovren should that track run cold.

The Italians are also said to be interested in Arsenal target, Daniele Rugani. Arsenal offered Juventus a deal that would have seen the defender come to London on a two-year loan and the player is said to be still available to purchase.

The 25-year-old signed for Juventus from FC Empoli in 2105 after being loaned to the Old Lady between 2012 and 2013. He cost £4.5m and was promptly sent back to Empoli on loan where he remained for the second half of 2015 before being brought to Turin.

Rugani has made 87 Juventus appearances in the four years since, two fewer than Mohamed Elneny has made for Arsenal despite the Egyptian moving six months later.
