The then 18-year-old, who is the nephew of actor Danny John-Jules, signed his first Arsenal contract in 2018 but due to his improvement, was handed better terms by the club in 2019.

He scored six goals with two assists in 17 games for the u23s in 18/19 from a forward position.

Speaking at the start of July 2019, John-Jules, said he was hopeful of making his competitive debut that season.

Smith & John-Jules set for loans in coming weeks

“It was a good experience to get back on the pitch, I’ve missed playing for Arsenal out there and it was all about getting fitness and recovery today and I was delighted to get two goals,” he said after an Arsenal XI had played Boreham Wood.

“[I’m aiming to] stay injury free and keep my fitness up and hopefully get a chance in the first team, and if I do, take it. Hopefully, I can make my competitive debut this season and be a strong part of the under-23s team and then kick on.”

Although he played for the first team when they travelled to Dubai in March 2019, he has yet to feature in a competitive match but should see chances this season in the Europa League and EFL Cup if Arsenal haven’t just renewed his contract ahead of sending him out on loan.
