Football.London report that Matt Smith and Tyreece John-Jules will be among those leaving Arsenal on loan in the summer transfer window.

Ideally, the club prefer to get the deals done early. That way the youngsters get a full pre-season to ensure they’re in their new manager’s plans. That’s not necessarily going to happen, though, as the EFL window doesn’t close until mid-October.

As we know, many loans come towards the end of the window when all realistic options for permanent moves are no longer on the table. However, it seems Smith and John-Jules are set for moves in the coming weeks.

We covered reports previously that Swindon Town are one of the teams in for Smith. The recently-promoted League One club took Daniel Ballard on loan from Arsenal last season. As for John-Jules, we’re still waiting on the list of leading contenders.

John-Jules spent part of last season on loan with struggling Lincoln City. He scored one winner in his seven appearances but a couple of injury problems held him back. Then the COVID shutdown ended his campaign early.

Smith made 14 appearances for the Arsenal u23s before their season came to a halt too. He then made regular appearances in Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad, featuring on the bench six times including for the FA Cup final.

The two 19-year-olds could have bright futures ahead of them if they can start to take the next step to senior football this season.
