Unai Emery has reiterated that he wants to sign ‘three or four’ players but has added a line straight out of the Arsene Wenger transfer handbook – ‘only if we can be sure they are coming to improve our squad.’
The Arsenal head coach was speaking after watching his side beat Fiorentina 3-0 in Charlotte thanks to a brace from Eddie Nketiah and one from Joe Willock.
With a restricted transfer budget this summer and a market in overdrive when it comes to prices, internal solutions could well be the way Arsenal go this summer.
But they are still looking to buy and, for the second time in a week, Emery confirmed that he wants ‘three or four players.’
“I am patient because we want to choose the best solution” Emery said when asked about transfers at the end of Saturday night’s game.
“Some players are very expensive and we are waiting for this possibility because we don’t want now to go to the second line of players. We are waiting and really we have very good young players.
“We are aware we also need to improve some areas in this squad. But I only want to sign three or four players only if we can be sure they are coming to improve our squad.
“There are a lot of names and the club is working. Edu is very close to me every day and also with the Kroenke family.
“I want to send a message to all our supporters that we want to [build] the best squad possible.”
It’s not clear if these ‘three or four’ will be in addition to Gabriell Martinelli who is, so far, the only player to arrive at the club this summer.
Arsenal are believed to be trying to sign a winger, full-back, central defender and midfielder.
They are reportedly very close to bringing in Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid on a season long loan, William Saliba is all but done while the club will make a third bid for Kieran Tierney.
The story claiming we are close to landing Everton Soares from Gremio, however, took a bit of a turn just before the game kicked off.
