Napoli are expected to sell fullback, Mario Rui, in order to gazump Arsenal’s £15m bid for Kieran Tierney that has already been rejected by Celtic.
Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Celtic’s Kieran Tierney whom the Scottish giants value at around £25m.
They have tested the waters with a £15m bid but that was dismissed out of hand by Neil Lennon’s side.
Napoli have been the other side consistently linked with a move for the 22-year-old and the ‘lead’ in the chase for his signature has swung between the two sides so often this summer it’s like being at Wimbledon.
Carlo Ancelotti has admitted being an admirer of the young defender and, with the sale of Rui, hopes to gather the funds to beat out Arsenal according to the Sunday Post.
Remember, this is the club that benched David Ospina so they wouldn’t be obligated to buy him for an agreed £4m because they only wanted to pay £2m. In the end, they coughed up just over £3m.
Celtic, for their part, have already brought in a replacement in Romelu Lukaku’s cousin, Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo for £3m although as you can read above, he’s quite happy to take over from Tierney or compete for the starting spot with him should Celtic hold on to the player they have tied to a contract until 2023.
