Arsenal, not Napoli, are leading the race for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, according to reports in Italy.

Despite reports from David Ornstein that Napoli were ‘edging ahead’ in the race to sign Tierney from Celtic this summer, some Italian outlets are saying precisely the opposite.

Calcio Napoli 24 report that sources close to the player himself have confirmed Napoli’s interest, but insist that Arsenal are still closest to a deal. Di Marzio reporter Fabrizio Romano claims talks are ongoing with the Gunners.

Daily Record claimed on Wednesday that Napoli’s interest has pushed Arsenal to get the deal done more urgently. They believe a deal can be done for £22m and plan to submit a new bid within 48 hours (24 hours at the time of posting this article).

Celtic have also signed a replacement left-back in Rapid Vienna’s Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo. Though publicly they’re denying that he’s any more than an alternative option in the position.

With pre-season fast approaching, it would be great if Arsenal could get this deal wrapped up quickly. The Gunners’ first senior match is in 12 days, so the players will be filtering back into training next week.
