The Real Madrid man, who has been on loan at Bayern Munich for the last two seasons and linked with a very unlikely move to Arsenal, is expected to seal a move to Napoli on a five-year-contract next week. The deal is described as ‘practically closed’ and will earn €8m-a-season (€153kpw).

Arsenal confirmed that David Opsina had signed for Napoli on a permanent basis this week.

They wrote, “David joined us from Nice in 2014 after six seasons in Ligue 1, and made 70 appearances during his time with us. He was our goalkeeper in the 2017 Emirates FA Cup final win over Chelsea, and was also in the squad for the 2015 FA Cup final victory over Aston Villa.

“With 98 international appearances, David is the most capped goalkeeper in Colombia’s history and also represented his country at two World Cups – in 2014 and 2018.

“We would like to thank David for his contribution to the club and everyone at Arsenal wishes him the best for his future.

“The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”

Napoli had an obligation to buy David Ospina in last season’s loan agreement but they benched him just short of the set appearance mark and then set about dicking around over his price trying to get him or £2m.

In the end, it is believed they paid £3.1m for him.

Arsenal paid £3.6m to sign him from Nice in 2014.
