Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has said they are not interested in a move for Kieran Tierney, giving Arsenal a boost and asking questions about the coverage of the Italians interest this summer.
All summer two clubs have been heavily linked with a move for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney – Arsenal and Napoli.
While Arsenal have had two bids rejected, the Italians have reportedly been snapping at the Gunners’ heels all summer, poised to snatch the defender away should Arsenal lose sight of their target for a second.
You might be surprised, then, to learn that Napoli aren’t interested in signing him at all.
Speaking after his side beat Liverpool 3-0 at Murrayfield, Ancelotti replied simply ‘No’ when asked if they were interested in Tierney.
He added: “I know him and he is a really good player, the Celtic left-back.
“We are looking for a lot of players during the season. Just now he is a Celtic player. We have two good left-backs but he is a really good player.”
Over the course of the summer we’ve been told that Napoli plan to sell a fullback to fund their move for Tierney, while the ‘race’ has seen Napoli pull ahead of Arsenal before Arsenal pulled ahead of them.
Of course, Ancelotti’s comments don’t mean that Napoli were never interested in the 22-year-old, but they certainly don’t seem as involved in this transfer as many media outlets would have you believe.
Arsenal are expected to return with a third bid for Tierney and they are hopeful will satisfy Celtic’s demands.
