Yes, it’s that time of the year again time to read all about how Arsenal are the most expensive football team to watch because their cheapest season ticket is more expensive than everybody else’s even though they give fans far more matches.
In case you missed it last year, and the year before, and the year before that and on and on ad infinitum, the media are gearing up to tell us how much more Arsenal fleece their fans than other clubs, but it’s simply not true.
While the papers list the prices of season tickets, they seem to go out of their way to avoid mentioning that Arsenal give their fans 26 games on their season tickets while others give far fewer. Every. Single. Year.
AFC £34.26 per game (26 games)
THFC £37.85 (21 games)
CFC £39.46 (19 games)
LFC £36.05 (19 games)
But don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story. Also how many seats are available at those prices? pic.twitter.com/SXXKprMtkE— Steve cl&t (@Swales1968) July 22, 2018
If you break that down to a per-game rate, Chelsea come out as the most expensive and their ground’s the sh**tiest of all the top teams in London. Well, it will be when Spurs eventually get around to opening their new toilet bowl.
Arsenal’s per-game rate here works out at £34.26, Chelsea £39.46 (19 games), Tottenham £37.85 (21 games), Liverpool £36.05 (19 games).
Doesn’t make quite the same headlines, does it?
