In a recent interview on Canal+, Serge Aurier revealed that he still has some affection for Arsenal.

Aurier was asked by the French TV station whether he preferred Olympique de Marseille or Arsenal. Marseille are the rivals of former club PSG.

You might, therefore, expect Serge to say “neither”, to refuse to answer, or to pick Marseille to keep his current club happy.

However, the self-confessed Arsenal-supporting Ivorian simply answered “Arsenal”.

This probably won’t come as too much of a surprise to anyone who has been following Aurier for a while.

A few years ago, before he joined PSG, Serge was linked with Arsenal, and fans discovered a number of pictures of him wearing the Gunners’ shirt in his free time.

The move didn’t end up happening, and Aurier went to the French capital instead. But the pictures have been in circulation ever since, with fans even posting them in response to Spurs’ announcement of the signing:

Aurier is no stranger to controversy.

As we’ve reported on in the past, alleged homophobic slurs caused him to fall out with the PSG manager, disciplinary issues have seen him miss 13 games through suspension, and an assault charge left him with a two-month prison sentence.

But these latest comments are probably going to annoy Spurs fans more than any of that…
