Arsène Wenger says new Spurs signing Serge Aurier is a top class right-back, ahead of the North London derby between the two sides.
Arsène Wenger was asked about Aurier in his pre-match press conference, and told reporters: “He’s a good player. He’s a top class right-back.”
There were strong rumours between Aurier and Arsenal before the Ivory Coast international joined Paris Saint-Germain, with Serge even being pictured in an Arsenal shirt. However, a move didn’t materialise, and the French club picked him up instead.
After homophobic slurs caused him to fall out with his manager, disciplinary issues meant he missed 13 games through suspensions, and an assault charge left him with a two-month prison sentence, Aurier moved onto Spurs this summer.
He doesn’t seem to have shaken off his rash streak, already receiving another red card for Tottenham this season, as well as conceding a penalty to Real Madrid.
Last season, Serge assisted Edinson Cavani in the opening minute against Arsenal in the Champions League. He only then missed out on the match at the Emirates thanks to his criminal convictions preventing him from entering the country.
This time Arsenal will have to host the right-back, and hopefully it’ll be for more red cards and penalties conceded than assists.
