Arsenal and Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil says Cristiano Ronaldo is “one of the greatest in the world”, and believes the Portuguese international is unlike any other player.

Ozil spent three seasons at Real Madrid before joining Arsenal in 2013. Back then, he was a part of one of the most exciting attacks in football, led by Cristiano Ronaldo. It was, in part, thanks to Ronaldo’s incredible goalscoring record that Ozil developed a reputation for providing so many assists.

Though he was well-known during his time at Werder Bremen, it wasn’t until he teamed up with some of the world’s best forwards at Madrid that he became known as one of the world’s best playmakers.

Reflecting on his time there, Ozil has a lot of praise for his former team mates. “Everybody knows him. I never saw anyone like him. He works really word. He’s very professional and always want to fight, even in a training game,” Ozil told Arsenal Player.

“I really enjoyed playing with him because he made me better on the pitch. He’s a good guy. Of course, I gave him a lot of assists. It’s easy to play with him, because he doesn’t need a lot of chances. Even if I give him two assists, he’ll score two. He’s an amazing player, one of the greatest in the world, and history.”

Ozil managed 81 assists in 159 appearances for Madrid, with several of them being for Ronaldo. His assist record at Arsenal isn’t quite as good, but then Arsenal don’t have forwards as good as the Portugese international.

The German has one year left on his contract at Arsenal, though is reportedly open to staying longer.
