Radio presenter Jim White believes that Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez will not hand in a transfer request like Philippe Coutinho did at Liverpool.

One feature of the Alexis transfer saga has been the silence of the player himself. While the papers couldn’t shut up about who’s confident of signing him and who Alexis has agreements with, he’s not really said anything bar some cryptic comments while at the Confederations Cup.

There’s been some speculation that the 28-year-old could hand in a transfer request at Arsenal, following in the footsteps of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho this summer. However, Jim White feels that Alexis isn’t the sort of player to do that.

“I think he’ll be there, I think he will go into this new season an Arsenal player,” White said, reports the Express. “I know it’s all guesswork, until we actually hear definitively from him. He’s so quiet about it, he’s very quietly going about his business.

“I can’t imagine any time soon the likes of Sanchez putting in a transfer request like Coutinho did the other day.”

Perhaps that says more about Coutinho than it does about Alexis. It should be stressed that the two players are in very different positions.

A transfer request is often the last resort for players, and Coutinho who recently signed a new long term contract with Liverpool, feels he has to go that far to get his move to Barcelona.

Alexis, on the other hand, knows that as long as he has another good season, clubs will remain interested in him. Another year at Arsenal isn’t going to hurt him and next summer he can have his pick of clubs to choose from without the Gunners getting in the way.

There’s no benefit to Alexis rocking the boat at this stage. His destiny is very much in his own hands. That’s not quite the case with Coutinho.
