Piers Morgan has never been one to hold back when it comes to Arsenal and Sunday was no exception.

After Arsenal were battered 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield, there were plenty of questions asked of every member of the team. Piers chose to focus first on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain:

He then turned on midfield duo Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, who were heavily slated in UK commentary on the day:

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been heavily linked with a move in recent weeks and played like he was already on his way out against Liverpool. The England international was guilty of jogging back for Liverpool’s second goal when sprinting may have prevented it. And at the other end, he offered nothing.

The 24-year-old’s performances haven’t been good at all this season, but unlike previous matches he couldn’t even cover that up with a couple of chances created or shots. Overall, the Ox failed to complete a cross, made zero chances and took zero shots. This in addition to the zero tackles he made all game. Most Arsenal fans wouldn’t miss him right now.

As for Ramsey and Xhaka, they were as poor as anyone. Arsenal have been blessed with some world class midfielders over the years, as Piers points out, and the current midfield pairing were supposed to add to that. However, after a performance like Sunday’s, it’s impossible to defend that idea.

Both players were caught out time and again in defence, but didn’t make up for it with anything going forward. Liverpool walked over them. For once, it’s difficult to argue with Piers’ negativity. Arsenal fans don’t deserve performances that bad.
