Napoli have reportedly now made Wojciech Szczesny their number one transfer target this summer.
- Szczesny set to replace Reina at Napoli
- Poland teammates Milik and Zielinski also play for the Serie A team
- Arsenal demanding £10m as goalkeeper becomes Napoli’s #1 target
- Talks between Gunners and Woj’s team set to take place 5 May
The rumour linking Woj to Napoli is pretty new but boy is it gathering pace.
With the goalkeeper, who’s been on loan at Roma for the past two seasons, unwilling to sit on the bench at Arsenal, it appears that he’s looking for another club.
While Arsenal should want to keep Woj, considering Petr Cech’s decline this season and David Ospina’s impending departure. However, since his contract runs out in 2018 and he’s now one of the best performing goalkeepers in Europe, they’re going to have their work cut out if they’re going to keep him.
He’s heading towards his peak and it’s totally understandable that he wants regular first team football after thriving on it for the last two seasons.
Despite his £10m asking price, according to Il Matino, Napoli have prioritised signing the 27-year-old as the ageing Pepe Reina’s replacement and while they’re also allegedly after Juventus’ Neto (27), it’s understood that Woj is their number one target.
As was reportedly yesterday, the Poland international and his team are set to meet with Arsenal on 5 May to talk about his future.
However, with compatriots Arkadiusz Milik and Piotr Zielinski, who both play for Napoli, also in his ear, these talks may not end in Arsenal’s favour unless they can give him some rather considerable assurances.
Arsenal are reportedly after Sunderland goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, just in case.
