Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he is trying to bring in a forward and a defender before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.

With the Premier League about to get underway in a few weeks and pre-season already in full swing, there is no shortage of players being linked with Arsenal by the press but we really still have no clue who they are actually interested in or who they are likely to end up with.

Not following other clubs as closely as I do the Arsenal, I can’t say definitively, but it’s hard to imagine another club that is as secretive during a transfer window as the Gunners.

This, then, from Wenger, is positively overloaded with information, as he spoke to Arsenal player.

“We look still for an offensive position and defensive position.

“We are very active on the transfer market but it’s a long time to go. Everybody has a handbrake on at the moment.

“It’s a little bit of a poker game until mid-August in my opinion. So we might have to be good at poker. We are very active, and if we find the right candidates we will spend big money.”

So far Arsenal have landed Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and Takuma Asano.

The most recent transfer stories sees them linked with Carlos Bacca, Alexandre Lacazette, Riyad Mahrez and a host of others, many of which come and go with the tide.
